TTF Newsletter Sept 2019

Tollgate Friends Lots happening at our Tollgate Trail Finders Snowmobile Club. We got a brand new 2019 Tucker Snowcat!!!! Yeah!!! We still have the 2008 Tucker as well. A big “Thank you to OSSA”!!! This is why we pay our dues to the club of which a portion goes to OSSA for our grooming needs and ultimately the machines themselves that keep all the trails groomed and make our mountain accessible. It needs to be noted that the upkeep and grooming is all done by a 100% volunteer group that donate their time to the needs of our club headed by Jess Thompson. Thank you guys!! OSSA DUES INCREASE The OSSA raised their dues from $25 to $35. The TTF portion remains the same at $25. Total club membership for the 2019-2020 season is $60. We are encouraging everyone to print and pay from the card at the bottom of this page. It cuts down on our mailing list that is very time consuming and expensive. Thank you in advance to all our members who help keep the doors open by paying your dues. Our club hovers around the 100 member mark and @$25 per family it’s a minimal amount to keep the lights and heat turned on. Many people use the trail system without paying dues. We encourage all who ride the trails and enjoy the warming shelters to join our club even if you are not involved in the ongoing activities. We think of our club as a family and have great times riding and hanging out. We have great riders in the club that will challenge your skillset and maybe find new areas to ride. We also have folks that love to trail ride on sleds and UTV’s. Be part of the TTF family and join today. ACCESS FOR UTVs and ATVs We had a great turnout for our UTV meeting on August 17th with the Forest Service at our clubhouse to promote greater access to our mountain roads during the non-snow season. Many of our roads lack connectivity with one another for ATV and UTV users hauling the machines to them. We believe progress was made and new routes may be established to help solve this problem and make the mountain much more accessible. SUMMER TRIP – MCCALL IDAHO McCall summer UTV trip.. What a blast! We had a group of eight that rented a huge house in McCall. Idaho is UTV user friendly. By simply purchasing an Idaho UTV sticker, you can ride just about everywhere. We rode to Burgdorf and swam in the beautiful hot springs. The next day several of our Idaho friends led us to Yellowpine (about a 100 mile loop) which was absolutely gorgeous. We can’t wait to do it again. FIREWOOD FOR THE SHELTERS We had a great wood cutting party at Chapman Bone Springs complete with our Founder Bernie Chapman and his son-in-law Rod Morrow. Pretty cool to see Bernie helping fill his namesake warming shelter at 94 years old. The cutting was scheduled to start around 9:00 am and it was heartwarming and inspiring when my grandson Tucker and I arrived at straight up 9:00 to see a small city of loggers, cutting, splitting and skidding logs. There were 6 chainsaws throwing wood chips in the air. Cecil Berry had a boat load of logs skidded around the front of the shelter for the sawyers to begin working on. Kenny Koberling and Matt from Battle Ground Wa. were swinging their mauls splitting wood faster than what the packers and stackers could keep up with. We ended up with two gas powered log splitters to boot. We had a total of 27 folks help out!! It was unbelievable to see the participation. Everyone was in their element…. Give a guy a chain saw and ax and he doesn’t need a lot of guidance, just space and let him go. It was amazing!! We even had four kids led by Dottie Carrell packing and stacking the firewood. No work party would be complete without a hotdog bbq, which we had. Everyone should stay warm… The Chapman Bone Springs Shelter is full along with plenty of wood to keep the Ruckel Shelter warm this winter. We still need to stain the Bone Springs Shelter later this summer but that won’t be a fire restrictive operation. Thank you to everyone who participated and made the day such a success!! Looking forward… Saturday November 2nd will be our first club membership meeting for the season.
